>>If we must fight — and there’s a non-trivial chance it will come to that before it’s over — let us fight no more than is necessary. And let us be open always to a just and honorable peace.<<
Exactly Right.
Westerners need to make Peace rather than wage 'War Against the World,' pitting themselves against over 3.5+ billion people & 3 civilizations concurrently. Fighting ought to be pursued only when what one Fights for is worthwhile & can be justified on sound reasons.
The 'West' of today should not commit hundreds of millions of its citizenry to die needlessly so that War, P***, Usury & Materialism be defended. Rather, they should choose Peace instead.
If I can add my two cents concerning the current situation.
Nietzsche’s Birth of Tragedy summed up tragedy as the Dionysian chorus of satyrs mocking the Apollonian hero.
Of the Greek gods only Dionysus was murdered and reborn. The giants who killed him and ate parts of his body were the ancestors of humans. If you can think metaphorically about that it means Dionysus himself was a sacrificial victim and humans are descendants of his murderers.
Concerning Dionysian madness, the maenads of today are obsessed with abstractions called racism and sexism (and human rights). But these are Apollonian in character, manufactured by intellectuals, and are an attack on natural order, one would think. Therefore, Dionysian nature is asserting itself by destroying modernism, not traditional Christianity.
Curiously, in Euripides’ Bacchae Cadmus and Tiresias were in opposition to Pentheus because of his impiety towards Dionysus. He (Pentheus) tried to force virtue on women. In fact, Tiresias calls Pentheus mad (line 326 in my edition).
"When the Orange Eschaton was immanentized" - lole.
The cartoon we have inhabited since birth has no good guys. Only degrees of compromise. It is important to recognise this. I think some - not all- compromise preferable to universal vengeance. Thinking is rare, however, and noticing the obvious a sort of crime. Where is the line? If the compromise leaves you with nothing to lose, then there is no reason to accept it.
There is a distance by design between what is said and what is done and we inhabit the unfolding consequences of this, the basis of the ruling hegemony for a century.
These are the real "bad guys", the people who tell you this system is liberal and democratic, and its legitimacy demands the destruction of nations including your own. In fact, liberal democracy is designed to be ruled by "expert" elites, who will decide the opinions of the public through propaganda. How is that going? Voting changes nothing and none of them have any solutions to the problems they have caused, because they and their system are the cause of all the problems.
The ideology of Looney Tunes has driven many people insane, and the production team are openly panicking. Remember that the site of war is called a theatre. The system whose rule is expiring is like a burning building, whose owners refuse to shout "fire". This is the real spectacle, not the one on stage. It destroys what it consumes, and these visible effects have permanently outpaced the manufacture of consent. How will you act?
Nobody can say what WE believe. Nobody can vouch for what anyone else believes. They can DEMAND we believe what they believe, and that we swear allegiance, and good luck with that
This was a good word. I find I am susceptible to being whipped up against scapegoats. The ending of this article was a good reminder and admonishment. Keep up the fire!

Well said.
