I am puzzled by the attitude that you only read things you agree with and whose authors' lifestyle and opinions meet your approval.
That's a very thin reading list, especially for students of world history and literature. Even excluding the attempts to make authors they want to read acceptable by tendentious interpretation; Shakespeare for instance...
But more importantly, you won't learn anything if you only read books and authors you agree with.
Hopefully, we're coming to the tail end of sanctimonious scolding. For years, we've been dealing with never-ending performative cancellations from people screaming, "I feel unsafe when I read X because he's a homophobic transphobic racist fascist Nazi." Most of us learn by adulthood that the world really doesn't care about your feelings and that bad people can also be good artists. The idea that you have to dig up famous historical figures, judge them by contemporary standards, then condemn them in an online show trial, was silly from the get-go and has become merely strident and tiresome.
